Episode Five: Did You Enjoy Your Stay? (Part 2)
Annie’s bossy side shined through and grated on all of us. She dictated what needed to be done and told all of us “dummies” just how to do it. It’s amazing how she has full confidence in ANYTHING she does. What really got me crazy was when Annie, who is beyond competitive with me, said she had a bigger gay following than I do. WHAT!?!?!? She may be smarter, younger and have a better body…but, WHOA! Don’t tread in my beloved gay country. I am—yes, AM—the Queen of the Queens and perhaps only Bette, Cher or Liza (when she’s sober) could dethrone me. Besides, who ever heard of a gay man idolizing a poker player? Annie doesn’t know anything. Gay men don’t play poker, they play poke-him.
The guys had it tougher having to deal with Dennis Rodman’s shenanigans. He was flying high, running amok and causing more mayhem than I thought was possible. It was no surprise that when we stayed in the boardroom that night, it was Dennis who was fired. He is an adorable, charming, smart and funny man with a winning personality, but he is clearly living on a totally different planet. I’m sorry to see him go.
With the men being picked off one-by-one, I bet it won’t be long until the teams merge and integrate, which is horrible. I love the strength that Melissa and I, and the rest of the women, possess. It will literally be a whole new game once we’re all mixed together.

Episode Five: Did You Enjoy Your Stay? (Part 1)
I have stayed in a lot of hotels—some were gorgeous while others look like they belong in an episode of Law & Order. For our fifth challenge, we were charged with running an upscale New York hotel—the Loews Regency. And after working there, I have tremendous respect for just how hard the behind-the-scenes staff works to make us feel at home.
Both teams arrived for a crash course in hotel management. We were given uniforms to wear, and once I got over the initial impulse to kill myself, I found the unisex necktie empowering and started thinking about a line of tie-tacks for QVC.
Our first assignment was to clean rooms. We made beds and scrubbed out the bathrooms, including the toilets (ugh!). After doing this for a while, I have come to realize that mankind’s best invention is not the wheel, but rather industrial-grade rubber gloves. Meanwhile, Melissa had torn a tendon in her ankle earlier but refused to stop working and soldiered on in pain to do whatever was assigned. None of us knew, especially me because I certainly would have told her to go see a doctor immediately.
My favorite part of this task, however, was running the concierge desk. I loved the challenge of doing the impossible, such as finding tickets to Billy Elliot an hour before curtain, or setting dinner reservations at the hottest restaurant for tourists in from Bozeman, Montana.

Here’s What You Didn’t See!

Last week, I was a guest on Larry King Live. It was a great time, but as is the case with Larry, there is always something else to talk about even after the show is over.

Last Night on Celebrity Apprentice
For those of you who watched the Celebrity Apprentice last night, you should have learned a very valuable lesson…never give someone whose only skill is to open a briefcase the job of leading a group of true professionals.
Poor Claudia couldn’t cope with the challenge. But then why should she be expected to? This is a girl who, in another time, would have had nothing to do but bat her eyelashes, wiggle her bottom and say, “Cigars? Cigarettes?”
Unfortunately for all of the women on our team, Claudia was neither intellectual nor a strong enough Project Manager to lead Team Athena to victory during the ACN Videophone challenge. Over the last two weeks, she has proven herself to be an ineffectual and weak (and pretty) girl who got in way over her head and is totally out of her league.
My mother always taught me that it is no sin to be dumb, as long as you know you are and you try to improve yourself. But when you’re dumb, and you think that you are smarter than everyone else, that’s when you’re in trouble.
I have to go and check my new book, “Men are Stupid and They Like Big Boobs: A Woman’s Guide to Beauty Through Plastic Surgery,” whether or not silicone implants can actually travel to the brain and causes memory and judgment lapses.

Remembering Natasha Richardson
I was a guest on “Larry King Live” last night, and although I was scheduled to talk about women in business, the conversation naturally turned to the death of Natasha Richardson. Those of us who knew Natasha will miss her terribly, and my thoughts are with her darling family: her husband, Liam Neeson, and her two wonderful children, Michael and Daniel.
I've seen and admired Natasha’s work for a long time, and I love and respect an actress who can seamlessly go back and forth between Broadway and film roles the way that Natasha did. Her Tony-winning performance in “Cabaret” was breathtaking, and her early start in a musical version of "The Philadelphia Story," years ago in London, was the first time I saw her on stage. She was very young and she sang and danced beautifully.
But I’m especially lucky to have a personal memory of Natasha. My family and I spent an amazing day on a boat in the Caribbean with her, Liam, the two boys and Natasha’s sister, Joely Richardson. We had all kind of known each other from dinner parties, so when we ran into each other at the airport we decided to get together. That day, in the sun, we talked and laughed and ate lunch and drank wine while the kids were swimming and diving off the boat…it was wonderful. This is how I’ll happily remember Natasha and her gorgeous, loving family.

Celebrity Apprentice: Here Come the Brides
I just loved this task, but it was the hardest yet!! Both teams were given empty stores and were told to open bridal boutiques. Wedding dresses would be supplied to us to sell, but we needed to advertise and market our boutique since we could only stay open for a few hours.
So how did we get our shop to look so great? Melissa called and begged Preston Bailey, a genius wedding designer and the top florist in New York, to send flowers, lighting and designers to make our little store gorgeous! He worked as though it was a major celebrity event.
Khloe called her radio DJ friends to promote our sale and Annie worked the cash register, which was great. Brandeeeeee, who was our project manager, called her friends to model, so our store was full of pretty girls who didn’t know exactly what they were doing but looked snappy in those dresses. Brandeeeee seems very nice, but controlled. Boy oh boy is she gorgeous. And I am very impressed that she can count above 20 wearing closed-toe shoes. Melissa thinks she’s smarter than I do. I just think God divides.
Melissa and Tionne pinned dresses and carried them from the stockroom to the floor and back again…a lousy thankless job. I did whatever I thought needed to get done, including making sure people on the street shopped at our store and not the guys’.
Claudia, on the other hand, simply put on a dress, fixed her makeup and went in the street to hand out flyers. At first I was angry, but then I realized: If my job was to open a briefcase on television, wearing a 15-pound dress for a few hours might seem like manual labor.
That evening, back at the boardroom, we won again! And Tom was fired from the men’s team. It looks like the women are absolutely going to slaughter the boys. I wonder how much longer we’ll play as teams of men and women. It’s bound to change.
